This ad was part of the ESPN+ for Business College Football Campaign, serving as a general promotion for college football rather than a specific matchup or event. It was designed to engage bar and restaurant owners who subscribe to ESPN+ for Business, emphasizing the excitement of the college football season while maintaining flexibility for ongoing use.
Without a specific game or launch moment to highlight, my goal was to create a set of evergreen, brand-aligned ads that still captured the intensity and energy of college football. I wanted each design to be immediately recognizable as ESPN+ content while also being dynamic and relevant for commercial audiences.
Understanding ESPN’s branding and tone was straightforward, the challenge came from keeping the visuals exciting without relying on team imagery or specific game narratives. To solve this, I explored more conceptual visuals, ultimately creating a design where a player appears to burst out of a television screen, symbolizing the action and energy that ESPN+ brings into every venue. This required advanced photo manipulation and compositing, combining real imagery with digital effects to achieve a sense of depth and movement.
The resulting design was bold, versatile, and aligned with ESPN’s visual identity. It succeeded in being both engaging and broadly applicable, making it suitable for multiple uses across social media and digital signage. This approach provided the campaign with adaptable assets that maintained visual excitement all season long.
This project gave me valuable experience in creating impact without relying on specific event narratives. It also helped me strengthen my photo editing and compositing skills, expanding my ability to generate visually compelling content even from generic assets. The creative problem-solving required for this piece has directly influenced how I approach brand flexibility in future campaigns.
